TRENDING FOR FALL 2019

There’s a crispness to the air this time of year. Growing up on a dairy farm, fall was when the cows got frisky. They seemed to have more energy. I think in a way that happens to us humans too. Fall energy makes me crave a change. It doesn’t have to be a huge change, but something to mix things up. I want my hair to feel like fall too.

Let’s talk about some trends this fall and maybe you’ll get an idea for a little change too.

Brush It Out

Whether you did some soft waves or some tight texture, don’t forget to brush it out. Not only is it more updated to not leave curls in their exact curl shape, but even beyond that, the “fluff” that you get from brushing through the curl is trending. We’re not talking about natural curl here (although I’ve seen some that looks cute brushed out); this is for curls that you create with a curling iron or flat iron. Run a brush through them. Create some fluff.

(On a side note, fluffy was what I was going for in grade school. I slept in tiny metal rollers and, in the morning, I brushed those babies out. Yep, fluffy was all the rage back then. Apparently it is again, though maybe not quite the same look I mastered as a child.)

Low Bun

Remember the top knot? (I’m sportin’ one right now!) If you want to be on trend, then transition that top knot to a low bun. You can keep it messy if you want, just throw it back instead of up. This might take some getting used to because that dang top knot has become a habit and it’s just so easy to do, but the low bun will get easier if we do it enough times. Give it a try.

Double Barrettes

You’ll be oh so chic if you do two barrettes instead of one. You can do them both on the same side, or do one on each side. If you’re not exactly sure where to place them or how low to go, look up some photos of Chrissy Teigen, she’s a pro at hair accessories. Or ask your hairstylist for a good placement according to your face shape. Besides double barrettes, more decorative barrettes are hot too, as well as hair accessories in general. If you haven’t dared wear some accessories, there’s still time to play with this trend.

Deep Parts & Different Textures

If you’re sick of the middle part beach wave, then this is for you. Take a deep side part instead. Make sure it is still moveable and not stuck in one place with too much hairspray. You can wear this trend with straight or wavy locks. If you’re tired of a soft wave, then go tighter with crimped waves. Just make sure you brush them out (see above). If you don’t have a crimp waver, then you can braid your hair, add some heat styling spray, and flat iron over those braids. Once the hair cools down, undo the braids and brush it out. Voila. Texture.

Warm Tones

Thinking of switching up your color this fall? Think bronze, caramel, and honey tones. If you’ve been on the cool side for a while, try warming up your color overall with a honey or bronze finish. Not sure you want to see it everywhere? You could also do one of those colors as a shadow root and keep your regular color on the ends. Just make sure your colorist brings a few pieces of the warm tones down (almost through the ends) to make your look cohesive.

Shine & Glow
