DIY HAIR TREATMENTS (Part 5 of 5): My Favorites
If you look online, there are all kinds of hidden treasures in your kitchen cupboards to make do-it-yourself hair treatments. In Parts 1-4 of this series, I talked about a few of the more popular items and gave my own thumbs up or thumbs down to them.
When it comes to improving the overall condition of your hair, it really isn’t that complicated. There are many basic things that can be done to improve the health of your hair, without spending lots of time or money. So here, in the final part of this series, I share a few of my favorite DIY hair helps. Maybe there are a couple you haven’t thought about before.
Use less heat. Or style without heat sometimes.
Learn to work with your natural texture instead of fighting it. (Need a recommendation for a product that would work with YOUR natural texture? Send me a message through the link on my About page.)
Wear a hat when outdoors to protect your hair from the sun.
Don’t pull your hair up in the same place every day.
Use less tension when you pull your hair up. Try using a scrunchie or Invisibobbles instead of a traditional hair band.
Be careful when combing wet hair. Comb gently and use a tool made for that, like a wetbrush or a wide-toothed comb.
Use a detangling spray for glide when you comb or brush.
Wear your hair in a loose braid when you sleep at night.
Keep your hair and scalp clean and free from bacteria.
Drink plenty of water.
Take your vitamins, especially Omegas, Iron, and Biotin.
Do a quick (30-60 seconds) scalp massage on yourself every morning or evening.
In addition to these DIY hair helps, I also suggest that you…
Use a good shampoo and conditioner, recommended by a professional, and made for your hair’s needs. This makes such a difference in your hair and scalp condition. (Don’t have a stylist you can ask? Send me a message through the link on my About page and I’ll give you some suggestions. Be sure to describe your hair and any problems you may have.)
Ask for a bond protector when you get your hair colored.
